Following the killing of the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, by kidnappers, the Chairman of the council, Kolapo Ojo, has declared a three-day mourning period across the local government area.
The council boss, who disclosed that the mourning period will run from Monday, May 19, to Wednesday, May 21, stated that flags will be flown at half-mast as a symbol of collective sorrow.
Ojo, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Seun Ogunniyi, described the late Adepoyigi as a dedicated party leader, a passionate community builder, and a patriotic son of Ose.
The APC ward chairman was shot by his abductors while in the kidnappers’ den a few days after he was abducted in front of his residence in Ifon.
The kidnapper, who initially demanded N100 million ransom, reduced it to N5 million, with two bearers of the ransom also kidnapped by the gang but were freed after the killing of Adepoyigi.
According to the local government chairman, the untimely death of the deceased was not only a personal loss to his family but also a painful blow to the entire council area.
“All government-related public activities will be held in a solemn tone in honour of the departed. In addition, all official activities of the Chairman are hereby suspended for the duration of the mourning period.”;;
