THREE off-duty police officers and two paramedics have sustained injuries following a serious accident in the early hours of the morning.

The collisions on the A130 are currently under investigation by Essex Police, with three individuals arrested.

Shortly after midnight, two separate accidents occurred on the A-road between the Rayleigh Spur and Sadlers Farm roundabouts.

Paramedics and police officers were responding to a report of a white Nissan X-Trail involved in a single-vehicle collision when they were injured in a subsequent incident.

While at the scene, the emergency personnel were involved in a second collision with a white transit van.

One officer and one paramedic sustained serious injuries and remain hospitalized.

The incidents are being examined by Essex Police’s serious collision investigation unit.

Three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the two accidents.

A 23-year-old man from Canvey has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, and driving while unfit due to alcohol or drugs.

Another man, a 29-year-old from Westcliff, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a Class B or Class C drug, and being in charge of a vehicle while unfit due to alcohol or drugs.

A 39-year-old man from Canvey has also been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit due to alcohol or drugs.

Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin stated: “The thoughts of everyone at Essex Police are with the emergency workers injured while responding to this incident – both they and their families are receiving support from the force.

“I want to emphasize that this investigation is ongoing, and we encourage the public not to speculate, allowing our teams to establish the facts of both incidents.

“Those arrested remain in custody, and we are diligently working through inquiries.

“If anyone has information or crucial dashcam footage of the vehicles involved that could assist our investigation, please reach out.”
