An alert at 9:30pm on Saturday called the anti-crime brigade to investigate the abandoned vehicle on Rue Henri Dunant.
The car was parked in a busy area close to a cinema and several restaurants.
Cops said on Sunday that they suspect the car of potentially being used in an attack against the Jewish community.
The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office has now opened an investigation into the discovery.
The probe is being led by counter-terrorist cops.
They are looking into charges of conspiracy to commit a terror offence and the transporting of category A and B weapons.
Category A weapons include semi-automatic firearms like rifles and handguns.
Category B weapons include pistols and revolvers.
