A GRAVE has been exhumed after a man was arrested on suspicion of murder amid a probe into the “unexplained” death of a woman in 2022.

It comes after officers at West Mercia Police were tipped off by Essex Police earlier this year about new information regarding a 57-year-old woman’s death in Telford in 2022.
A 62-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in May and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
Police in hazmat suits alongisde forensic officers swarmed the burial site today.
Large blue tents were set up as officers guarded the boundaries of the burial ground.
Specialist teams worked through the night and into the morning to recover the remains.
The identity of the body has not been revealed with an investigation into the alleged murder ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Holehouse, of West Mercia Police’s Major Investigations Unit, said: “On Wednesday 6 May 2026 we were contacted by Essex Police after information was given to them regarding the death of a 57-year-old woman in Telford in 2022.
“An was then launched by West Mercia Police, and a 62-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
“He has since been released on police bail as enquiries continue.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, which is now being treated as an unexplained death, this morning (Monday 7 September) officers have completed the exhumation of a grave at Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground near Whitchurch, Shropshire.
“The activity at the cemetery is unrelated to the burial ground, but we would like to thank Fenns Meadow Green for their cooperation and assistance while we carried out this complex operation.
“Due to the ongoing investigation we are unable to release further details at this time but will do so when we are able to.”
