AN URGENT search has been launched after a man attempted to rape a woman in a city centre park.

The suspect, who is described as a black man around 5ft 9ins tall, attacked his victim in Bass’ Recreation Ground, , on Saturday November 8.

Derbyshire Police understand the man approached the woman and dragged her to the floor.

It was reported he assaulted her between around 12am and 4am.

He was wearing a cream t-shirt and either shorts or jogging bottoms.

The force has released CCTV of a man they wish to speak to as he was in the area at the time and may have valuable information.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “Officers have made extensive enquiries as part of our investigation and we are now turning to the public for assistance.

“We have released a picture of a man who was seen in the area around the time of the offence.

“We appreciate the picture is not the clearest but we are hoping someone may be able to come forward with information about the man’s identity.
