A puzzled passer-by spotted the massive metal bowl at around 3.30pm on Wednesday in a field in Scott Township, Minnesota.

The baffled bystander immediately alerted the local Stevens County Sheriff’s Office – who raced to the scene of the disturbing debris.

Measuring around 11ft wide – around the size of a large hot tub – the metal bowl has jagged edges as if ripped off from some larger object.

Several state and federal agencies are now working to identify the spooky find – and notify the owner.

There is no danger to the public, according to the Sheriff’s office.

The origin of the mysterious metal bowl have not been made public.

Speculation has exploded online with many suggesting it could be a sign of alien activity.

Others claimed it might be a shard from a or a disintergrating satellite.

One wrote on Reddit: “Did Space X explode again???”

“Rocket bits, though somebody more knowledgeable will likely know exactly what part”, chimed in another.

One joked: “Ticket Elon musk for littering.”

On Facebook, one woman said: “We forgot there was a tornado that skipped its way through Stevens County a few weeks ago?!?”

Many also questioned the absence of a crater with one saying: “Did it gently fall? Odd that it didn’t crater.”

Another warned: “Stand back, there could be radiation!”

“It’s a flying saucer” stated one while others simply posted alien face emojis.

Tech tycoon Elon Musk launched a rocket from Florida on Tuesday and last week a tornado ripped throught the Minnesota region.
