THIS is the shocking moment a police officer borrows a bike from a cyclist and uses it to chase down a suspected thief.

After commandeering the bicycle, bodycam footage shows the cop tackling the man to the ground and shouting: “You’re f****** nicked!”.

The chase began with the officer driving through the streets of Twickenham, south-west London in pursuit of an alleged thief.

Realising he needs to carry on the chase on foot, the officer exits his car and starts running.

But he soon passes a member of the public with a bike – who says: “Do you guys want to chase him on this?”.

The grateful officer replies “would you mind?” and tells the cyclist he only needs it for “five minutes”.

He races off, eventually reaching the suspect on a towpath near to the Twickenham Stoop stadium.

He then tackles the man to the ground and shouts: “Get over, get on the ground”.

“You’re f****** nicked!” he adds.

The officer then contacts his team, saying: “Additional officers coming to join me.

“I’m going to have to repatriate this bike to my hero member of the public.”

Insp Jon McLoughlin said of the incident: “The video below shows a recent arrest after a bike was stolen on Whitton High Street and is a great example of the public and working together.

“In this case, a quick-thinking cyclist lent an officer their bike so they could continue their pursuit of a suspect.

“It’s a brilliant example of how a small act can make a big difference.”

This isn’t the first time an officer has used a member of the public to help catch a suspect.

In June, in the middle of a police chase before they catch the suspect fleeing on foot.

The officer clutching a firearm can be seen approaching a mini-roundabout after the suspect evaded attempts to arrest him.

Standing in the middle of the road, he then turns to a passing in a van who stops and urges the officer to “get in the back, get in the back”.

The officer climbs in shouting “go, go, go” and tells the driver to follow the other officers.

In another amusing clip as he is chasing down two thieving boys.

The woman who filmed the incident said she and her friend were driving home when they saw the chase unfold.

“He opened the door and told us to follow the suspect,” she said.
