Sporting Lagos have hit out at the officiating that saw the team lose a Nigeria National League, NNL, clash to Gateway United.

The game was overshadowed by controversial decisions made by referee Adebayo Qudus.

Sporting’s Seun Akanji, appeared to score a perfectly legitimate goal but Qudus disallowed it for offside. His assistant referee had run back toward the centre circle to indicate a goal.

To further complicate the incident, Seun was then shown a yellow card.

Minutes later, the striker found the net again but the referee blew the whistle mid-play and handed him a second yellow card, which automatically meant a sending off.

The assistant referee did not flag any of the two goals for offside.

Gateway United equalized after they awarded a controversial penalty and went on to win 2-1.

A Sporting Lagos board member, Fola Olatunji-David, wrote on X: “People should be out of jobs — and some people in jail — for what is going on in Nigerian football.”;;
