Commonwealth Games Athletes Advised to Pack Their Own Condoms Due to STI Concerns Following Winter Olympics Shortage

BIG-NAME athletes are gunning for gold at the Commonwealth Games – and they have been warned to bring their own condoms.

The iconic competition , with more than 3,000 stars arriving from 74 nations and territories to battle it out for medals.

But the Commonwealth Games has been rocked by Katarina Johnson-Thompson through injury.

And those who have jetted into Glasgow have been urged to think about their wellbeing when not chasing a podium finish.

Experts have encouraged to carry contraception with them and undergo tests if they have unprotected sex.

Senior sexual health nurse Sarah Mulindwa said: “Planning ahead for your sexual health is no different from preparing for a heatwave.

“ are an exciting opportunity for people from around the world to come together and celebrate sport, but we want everyone to enjoy the event while looking after their health.

“Carry condoms if you think you may need them and get tested if you’ve had unprotected sex or a new sexual partner.

“Seek advice promptly if you’re worried about HIV exposure or need emergency contraception.

“Looking after your sexual health is a normal part of looking after your overall wellbeing.”

The Commonwealth Games are returning to Glasgow for the first time since 2014.

And one sexual health nurse told the Daily Mail their clinic saw an increase in STI diagnoses and demand for help in the aftermath of the event 12 years ago.

Condoms are usually widely available for competitors at major sporting events.

But at the Winter Olympics’ athletes villages earlier this year.

The organising committee said: “We can confirm that condom supplies in the Olympic villages were temporarily depleted due to higher-than-anticipated demand.”

A whopping 10,000 condoms were used by the sex-crazed stars , leading to the supply having to be restocked.
