A COMEDY legend was rushed to hospital for emergency eye surgery as he was forced to cancel a string of shows.

Colin Mochrie, 68, pulled out of his scheduled shows following the scare, which saw him receiving urgent treatment for a detached retina.

The Whose Line Is It Anyway? star shared the update on social media, where he joked with fans that he looked like a ‘remake of Popeye’, but shared his treatment was “moving in the right direction”.

He was due to appear in a string of shows as part of the Hyprov: Improv Under Hypnosis tour, stretching through cities across with Asad Mecci.

But a post shared on January 2 confirmed that the comedian would be withdrawing from his upcoming shows.

“We regret to inform you that our upcoming shows will be postponed due to a medical situation involving Colin Mochrie,” the statement read.

It continued: “Colin has been diagnosed with a detached retina and will be undergoing emergency eye surgery today. His medical team is optimistic about his full recovery, but he needs time to rest and heal.”

It is unclear how the actor managed to pick up the injury, which required quick media attention.

And just days after his treatment, Colin shared an update with his fans on social media, revealing he’s slowly “moving in the right direction”.

“Just a quick update to let you know that I’m still in treatments for my detached retina,” he wrote.

“It’s slow going but moving in the right direction. Your support and well wishes have really meant everything.”

But keeping a sense of humour around things, he joked : “If anyone out there is making a remake of Popeye, I’m your man.

“You’ll just have to wait till I’m allowed to get out of bed.”

Colin appeared in 21 seasons of the American remake of UK classic Whose Line Is It Anyway?

The show, which also starred Two And A Half Men star Ryan Stiles, ran from 1991 to 1999.

Drew Carey was the initial host from season one to eight, with actress Aisha Tyler taking over for the revival, which aired from 2013-2024.

Aisha is known for her role on the sitcom Friends, playing paleontologist Charlie.

“At the time, people talked quite a bit about the fact that, for a show that was set in the heart of Manhattan, it really lacked diversity”, she told The Independent.

“But we didn’t have social media back then, so it wasn’t the large-scale conversation that it became later.”
