Super Eagles defender, Jamilu Collins has said he was right to pull out of Nigeria’s last two friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.
The left-back was named in a 23-man squad for the friendlies by Nigeria head coach, Jose Peseiro.
Collins was however unable to honour the invitation due to fitness concerns.
The 29-year-old shed more light on his decision to pull out of the squad.
“Me not going to the national team was for my own self,” he told a press conference ahead of Cardiff City Sky Bet Championship clash against Swansea.
“I’ve been out for a long time and the gaffer told me not to because he wants me to rest due to the issues with my hamstring. I think the advice was the right one for me.
“I just play and if the national team coach is impressed with the performance, he will stick with me.”
