CODY RHODES suffered a legitimate eye injury during his WrestleMania 42 main event on Saturday.

The WWE Undisputed champion defeated longtime friend turned rival Randy Orton, but he suffered a punt kick to the face after the bell.

The American Nightmare was left a bloody mess, but new pictures show just how much damage was done on the night.

Rhodes was forced to cancel his fan meet and greets on Sunday in Las Vegas, but he was still spotted out and about.

WWE have also announced that Rhodes will be out of action indefinitely with the injury.

“I can confirm that Cody Rhodes is not medically cleared,” Jackie Redmond began.

“And after speaking to medical staff, I can tell you, the damage from that main event was severe.

“Afterwards, Cody Rhodes needed three sutures to the face and four staples to the back of the head.

“As for the punt that you just showed from Randy Orton, the impact to Cody’s orbital socket was so severe that his eye is still completely shut.

“So again, Cody Rhodes is not medically cleared, and his timetable for return as of today is up in the air. If I hear anything further, I’ll be the first to let you know.”

Orton’s punt has not been seen in WWE for 13 years. It was outlawed during Vince McMahon’s time in charge, largely because of the idea it might plant in children’s heads watching at home, but also the high level of danger with the move.

The Viper was seen breaking character and checking on Rhodes after the match, suggesting he knew just how much damage he had done.

Although not from the punt – reports suggest that it was a punch Orton landed prior to the kick that made it swell shut.
