But arguably stole the show with an amazing moment on the field.

The Dutchman was forced to play part of the match with just one boot in amazing scenes.

Gakpo lost his other shoe while challenging for a ball in the air.

As he landed, the forward appeared to have his right heel clipped by teammate Virgil van Dijk.

It saw Gakpo’s neon green boot fly off hit foot.

But the play didn’t stop as Liverpool launched an attack towards Barnsley’s goal.

With no time to spare, Gakpo grabbed his boot in one hand and began sprinting up the pitch in support.

And viewers were left amazed as he was played a pass while breaking into Barnsley’s half.

Despite missing his right boot, Gakpo dribbled quickly forwards with the ball, carrying it several meters before pinging a pass of his own with the shoeless foot.

Liverpool’s attack eventually came to nothing as Gakpo then charged into the box hoping to pounce on a cross.

But his lack of footwear finally caught up with him as the hitman skidded across the grass while trying to stop his run.

Gakpo quickly dropped to one knee and was finally able to get his boot back on before rejoining the fray.

Fans were left delighted with the scenes as one said: “Imagine he scored and VAR ruled it out for missing a boot.”

Another declared: “Found a way to stop him cutting in and shooting with his right.”

One noted: “I got a yellow for that in Sunday league.”

Another added: “This season is not real.”
