Troops fighting insurgency in the North-East have been urged to sustain pressure on terrorist groups as military operations continue in the region.

This was contained in a press release shared on the official page of the Nigerian Army on March 8, 2026.

According to the statement, the Army Chief gave the directive during an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, Borno State, on March 7.

The visit, the Army said, was aimed at assessing the security situation in the theatre of operations, reviewing ongoing activities and strengthening coordination with other security stakeholders working to address remaining threats in the region.

According to the statement, while addressing the troops, Shaibu commended their efforts and sacrifices in ongoing operations across the theatre.

“The days of remaining in defensive positions are over. Troops must continue to take the fight to the terrorists wherever they are found,” he said.

The Army Chief also stressed the need for improved intelligence gathering, effective coordination among units and sustained operational momentum in order to consolidate gains already recorded against terrorist groups.

The statement said he further directed troops to maintain an aggressive operational posture to deny terrorists freedom of movement, especially during the closing phase of the Ramadan period and beyond.

The Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai, Abdulsalam Abubakar, briefed the Army Chief on recent operational activities, achievements and challenges encountered within the theatre.

Abubakar assured the Army leadership of the troops’ continued commitment and professionalism in ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the North-East.

The statement added that troops of the operation remain determined in carrying out their mandate despite challenges encountered in some locations.
