Club World Cup: Why PSG, Chelsea players fought after final – Luis Enrique

Published on July 14, 2025 at 09:35 AM

Paris Saint-Germain manager, Luis Enrique, has claimed that the fight that broke out between players following the Club World Cup final on Sunday was due to tension and pressure.

Chelsea outclassed PSG 3-0 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to win this year’s competition.

However, a scuffle broke out between the two teams after the final whistle, with coaches and staff getting involved.

Enrique has now claimed he was “just trying to separate the players”; as tempers boiled over at full time.

TV footage, however, showed Enrique raising his hand to the neck of Chelsea’s new signing, Joao Pedro.

“There was pushing and shoving, a lot of tension and pressure,”; Enrique said.

“The situation obviously should have been avoided.

“My intention was clearly to just try to separate the players.”;
