An ex-Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has condemned the threat against former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State.

Chidoka, in a statement on Wednesday faulted the remark, describing it as as a dangerous erosion of democratic values in Nigeria.

The governor had issued a strong warning Obi, cautioning him against

The former Aviation boss called the comment, which was made in July 2025 a disturbing pattern of territorial authoritarianism by subnational actors.

DAILY POST recalls that earlier in April, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia had similarly told Obi not to visit internally displaced persons, IDP, camps in the state without prior clearance, citing security concerns.

“These threats are unconstitutional, unlawful, and signal a creeping descent into regional lawlessness,” Chidoka warned.
