CHELSEA and Newcastle clash at Stamford Bridge, with both facing crunch Champions League second leg ties in midweek.

After intense Champions League ties in midweek and big return legs to come this coming week, these two could probably do without this Saturday teatime fixture.

Chelsea were battered in Paris despite twice coming from behind to level when conceding three more in the final quarter of an hour.

Despite being competitive in the tie, it goes down as another big game blot on the Liam Rosenior record book and it’s two wins (one against Championship side Hull), two defeats and three draws (one at Wrexham) from their last seven games.

Draws with Burnley and Leeds in the last two at home doesn’t represent strong home form either, particularly when the victory before that was a come-from-behind win over West Ham.

So it maybe helps they welcome a Newcastle side who’ve had a real struggle away from home this season, up until a decent run recently.

Having said that, their three wins on the spin came at Qarabag, Villa and Spurs, which it transpires aren’t difficult games given their form currently.

The Toon were denied a famous win over Barcelona in midweek when the referee played added time on the added time, allowing Lamine Yamal to score from the spot late on.

A trip to the Nou Camp awaits after this, so team selection could be interesting on both counts.
