CHELSEA welcome Premier League champions Liverpool to Stamford Bridge for Sunday’s blockbuster showdown.
Chelsea vs Liverpool preview
Fresh from sweeping aside Swedish side Djurgarden with a minimum of fuss midweek, Chelsea shift their focus back to the Premier League.
And while a Conference League title would represent their first piece of silverware since 2021 and offer a welcome lift around Stamford Bridge, the real prize is Champions League qualification.
And a win over newly crowned champions Liverpool on Sunday would be a major step towards achieving that.
Enzo Maresca’s side currently occupy the fifth and final Champions League qualification spot with just four games remaining.
Midweek results went their way too, with Brentford’s surprise away win over Nottingham Forest handing the Blues a further boost â leaving their destiny in their own hands.
And it’s no wonder given their recent form.
After a sluggish start to 2024, they’ve collected 17 points from their last eight league matches (W5 D2 L1) â including successive victories over London rivals Fulham and Everton.
However, toppling Liverpool remains a difficult assignment, regardless of the Reds having already sealed the title.
Chelsea are winless in their last 10 meetings with Liverpool across all competitions (D7 L3), and the Merseysiders tend to finish campaigns strongly having gone unbeaten in their last 20 Premier League matches in May (W16 D4).
There’s also a curious bit of history working against the Blues.
Sunday will mark Chelsea’s seventh Premier League encounter against a side already crowned champions â the most of any team in the competition. Of the previous six, they’ve won just once.

Bore draw
We’re backing a draw in Sunday’s showdown.
There’s never much between these sides when they meet, regardless of form or league position. In fact, of the last 10 meetings â a whopping eight have finished level after 90 minutes.
Don’t expect a goal fest either. The pair have a combined five clean sheets in their last 12 games, which isn’t a surprise given Liverpool and Chelsea rank first and second for xGC (expected goals conceded) over the last six league matches.

Enzo Assist
We’re backing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez to provide an assist this weekend, priced at a generous 5/1 with William Hill. The Argentine, 24, has produced 13 assists for his colleagues this season with FOUR of those registered in his last three games!
Only three players have created more chances in the Premier League this season than Fernandez (73) while nobody in the Chelsea squad comes close to the 16 chances he’s created over the last six league outings.
