CHELSEA and Manchester City fans fumed at VAR over Arsenal’s opening goal at Stamford Bridge.

But some fans questioned why the goal was allowed to stand after the ball moved past who was stood on the goalline.

City saw a goal chalked off in similar circumstances against on Tuesday, as the deemed to have interfered with play.

Arsenal‘s goal was quickly reviewed by VAR and given the green light without a delay in play.

That is because unlike Haaland, Gyokeres was not making any contact with a defender, none of whom even tried to keep the ball out.

Haaland’s mutual tugging with Malick Thiaw was viewed as preventing the defender from playing the ball from an offside position.

The VAR check this time agreed that Gyokeres’ position was irrelevant as his actions did not have any impact on any Chelsea player.

That did not prevent confused fans from voicing their rage in response to the goal being allowed to stand.

One fan said: “So VAR spent six minutes last night looking at an offside that wasn’t, yet not even 10 seconds at Arsenal’s goal. Make it make sense!!”

Another added: “Lmaooo! VAR in England is a joke, how is the Arsenal goal not offside after the nonsense from Man City’s game last night 😂😂😂😂”

A third wrote: “There’s no way Arsenal just scored a goal with a similar situation of Gyokeres in an offside position… VAR waved it off so quickly that they took the replay off of the TV before it even played!”

And another commented: “So, can someone tell me what is the difference between Arsenal’s goal v Chelsea and City’s second disallowed goal v Newcastle?”

“You can see the Arsenal player move backwards to allow the ball to go into the net and yet it’s deemed not offside? VAR and @FA_PGMOL can get in the bin.”
