TIGHTS are an essential part of any winter wardrobe, whether paired with skorts and chunky boots or styled with mini dresses for cold nights out.

Unfortunately, many of us have encountered the issue of finding tights that can last more than a few hours without tearing.

“Tights are crafted from highly elastic materials like nylon and polyester blends to ensure flexibility and a snug fit, but these materials are inherently delicate,” said Simon Elliott, the founder and operations director of the clothing brand Clifton in an interview with NBC News .

“Even minor snags or overstretching can jeopardize their structural integrity, leading to rips.”

Fortunately, one resourceful woman has provided a simple 5p hack that can help extend the lifespan of your tights – and it works even on less expensive pairs.

According to fashionista and TikToker Victoria Casalino, the solution is likely already on your vanity table – hairspray.

It turns out that in addition to keeping your bouncy curls intact throughout the day, this popular beauty product also works wonders for tights.

Hairspray contains polymer adhesives that help hold your hairstyle in place, and it performs similarly for the fabric fibers in your tights.

Depending on the hold level, it can also act as a sealant, helping to bond the material back together – or at least prevent the run from expanding.

Hairspray is typically clear, dries quickly, and leaves no visible residue, making it the ideal solution for winter and the festive season.

Moreover, unlike other DIY hacks like clear nail polish, it washes out easily.

Sharing this game-changing hack with her 277k followers, Victoria (@ victoriacasalinoo ) remarked: “It’s tights season, ladies; remember the hairspray hack.”

“No rips in sight… work smarter, not harder,” she wrote in the caption of the now-viral video .

In the clip, which has garnered over 2.5 million views in just three days, the fashion enthusiast was seen generously spraying the product directly onto her tights while wearing them.

If you notice certain areas, like around your thighs, are more susceptible to laddering, it’s worth giving them an extra spray.

Christmas Fashion Tips from an Expert

, Fashion Editor at Fabulous, has shared her top recommendations for looking fabulous this Christmas.

AVOID: Christmas jumpers
No longer a quirky novelty, they have fallen out of favor and are no longer suitable for festive parties.
By all means, wear them for Christmas Jumper Day for Save The Children, but refrain from wearing them before or after that day.

WEAR: Burgundy
Burgundy is a must-have color this season; it’s a luxurious, deep, and rich hue that offers a refreshing break from traditional Santa-red during Christmas.
Choose silky textures or velvet for added style points.

AVOID: PJs
The trend of feather-trimmed co-ords is outdated and should be avoided.
Skip the feathered set this year, and instead, opt for a satin two-piece without the embellishments.

WEAR: Sequin Dress
Consider mixing sequins with different textures or colors, such as a sequin skirt paired with a sleek knit.
But when you're unsure of what to wear, sequins are always a festive go-to.

AVOID: Sequin blazer
There’s nothing worse than arriving at a festive event looking like hired entertainment.
Save the sequin blazer for magicians and Strictly judges; instead, always opt for a classic tuxedo style or velvet.

WEAR: Bling trousers
Last party season, embellished jeans with diamante accents were a hit, and this year they are set to be just as popular.
If you’d rather not have gemstones falling off everywhere, try metallic or PU trousers.
