THE chief executive of Channel 4 has said she is “deeply sorry” over the rape allegations from cast members on Married at First Sight UK.
The shocking allegations of rape and sexual misconduct were first revealed in a BBC Panorama documentary on Monday night.
Two women allege and have accused the production of failing to protect them.
A third has made sexual misconduct allegations about her on-screen husband.
Speaking at a press briefing today, Channel 4 boss Priya Dogra has now apologised and said she had found the women’s accounts “very troubling” to watch.
She said: “I have watched the programme, and heard the women’s accounts, which are very troubling.
“Their distress is clear, and for that, I am of course deeply sorry.”
The dating show’s next run was due to air in September but has been under huge scrutiny following the allegations.
However, Dogra denied media reports that the show has been cancelled, branding it “wholly inaccurate”.
She added that welfare across all Channel 4 programmes is “hugely important” and “a primary concern”.
All ten series of the show have been removed from Channel 4’s streaming site.
Meanwhile, outgoing chief content officer Ian Katz has said the broadcaster “ensured that women involved were kept safe when any issues were raised to us”.
Katz added that the woman were given “appropriate support”, after allegations of rape and sexual misconduct were made by Married At First Sight UK participants.
