CELEBRITY Catchphrase left a beloved TV presenter stumped with tricky final round puzzles – but could you work them out?
Vernon Kay , 51, had a strong start and got through most of the ITV show’s pyramid.

However, he struggled upon reaching the penultimate row in the final round.
Vernon faced a puzzle showing two men talking as a thief tried to steal one of their wallets.
One of the men was covered in flies and there was an arrow pointing at the other man.
Although Vernon threw out guesses like “cat burglar” and “fly swatter”, he ultimately chose to pass.
He only had a few seconds on the next one which featured Mr. Chips in a stock exchange room – and the word IN on a screen behind him.
After time ran out, Vernon told host Stephen Mulhern that he “couldn’t wait” to hear what the burglar one was.
The elusive answers turned out to be “there’s no flies on him” and “in over his head”, respectively.
Vernon won £10,000 and this was combined with £4,300 that he’d won earlier.
Altogether, the presenter bagged an impressive £14,300 for his charity.
Elsewhere, comedian Sue Perkins fell at the final hurdle after being floored by tricky riddles.
She had featured alongside actors alongside Brian Conley and Colin Salmon.
Sue became unstuck on boxes 13 and 14 out of the 15 squares in total.
Box 14 showed a character fast asleep and travelling in a striped car, with an alarm clock on the front.
Sue guessed “speeding” before opting to pass to box 13.
This showed two cardinals standing outside a building with an arrow pointing towards one of them, and Sue suggested it could represent “right bishop” or “right priest” and “right cook.”

Hardest Quiz Show Questions
Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV's hardest questions
- Who Wants To Be A Millionaire – Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the “worst” question in the show’s history . Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: “From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?” The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman , Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000.
- The 1% Club – Viewers of Lee Mack’s popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed . The query went as follows: “Edna’s birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen’s birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir’s birthday must be the ‘X’ of January.” It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir’s birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence.
- The Chase – The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: “Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?” The options were – sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots – with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes.
The star then ran out of time, but scooped £10K for her efforts, to add to the £6,900 she won for charity earlier in the show.
Stephen remarked on her performance and said: “£10k you were going for it there!” to which she replied: “I got really stymied on 13 and 14, it would be interesting to see what they are.”
Number 13 was revealed as an arch bishop while 14 represented the phrase fast asleep.
Celebrity Catchphrase airs on ITV1 and ITVX .
