The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has announced a nationwide one-day prayer to seek divine intervention against what it has termed an ongoing “genocide” in certain regions of the country.
This directive was issued following resolutions made during CAN’s National Executive Council meeting held in Jos, Plateau State. In a memo dated November 20, 2025, and signed by CAN General Secretary, Apostle Prof. Samson A. Fatokun, the association has called upon all bloc leaders, zonal and state chairpersons, heads of church denominations, and resident pastors to mobilize their congregations for this special prayer event scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2025.
As stated in the memo, the prayer will be observed simultaneously across all Christian denominations in Nigeria, focusing on five key areas: ending the alleged genocide against Christians, ensuring the safe resettlement of displaced victims, curbing the activities of terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits, granting divine wisdom to government officials, and restoring peace and tranquility throughout the nation.
“The CAN President, His Eminence Archbishop (Dr.) Daniel C. Okah, has emphasized that this prayer should be conducted with utmost fervor,” the memo indicated. “We firmly believe that our God will rise in strength as He did in Esther’s time.”
Referencing biblical passages from 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Esther 4:15–16, CAN urged churches to pray fervently, expressing confidence that this spiritual endeavor would lead to divine intervention for the country.
The memo, which was acquired by DAILY POST, is titled: “Declaration of a One-Day Nationwide Prayer Against Christian Genocide in Nigeria”. It concluded by reassuring the CAN President and national leadership's dedication to protecting the interests and welfare of Christians across the nation.
