Callum Simpson Stuns Fans with Epic Revenge to Reclaim British Super-Middleweight Title from Troy Williamson!

CALLUM SIMPSON won back his British super- middleweight title from Troy Williamson.

The December original in this same First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds was a classic.

Williamson weathered an early storm and devastated the Yorkshire lad with four tenth-round knockdowns.

Simpson axed his local coaching team following that loss and he transferred to Sheffield to join Team GB mastermind Rob McCracken.

He pulled off the revenge mission last night with a thrilling showdown that the three ringside judges called: 116-112, 117-112 and 115-113.

The Barnsley fan, 29, got a hero’s welcome flanked by flames as walked down the Leeds arena ramp.

The defending champion — from Darlington — walked into a cauldron of boos as the heat from the pyrotechnics ramped right up before a punch was even thrown.

Williamson, 34, made a sloppy start, walking on to too many straight one-twos.

But right on the bell, The Trojan landed the heaviest shot of the opener when he connected with Simpson’s designer stubble.

The start of the second was a wild dogfight with both men grabbing and thrashing each other.

When they came apart, Simpson had a small cut around his left eye.

Simpson used his towering size to overpower the champ throughout the round but, again, a late Williamson right hand connected with his head and a left to the body followed.

Simpson threw everything in the third and robbed Williamson of his senses, who was spark out on his feet but refused to go down.

He clung on and ref Victor Loughlin could not separate them until the bell did.

Williamson was still dazed and unsteady when the fourth started. But every time the challenger afforded him some time and space, he threw accurate scoring shots that tested Simpson’s chin.

The fifth was another dominant round for Simpson who seemed to have Williamson hurt again — but he again refused to fold.

Round six was a thriller, too, as Simpson continued to dominate but, at middle- distance, Williamson was always landing hooks and straight rights that threatened to flip the switch.

Simpson kept it up in the seventh and the eighth-round sound of his bony right fist, only cushioned by a 10oz leather pad, smacking into Williamson’s skull made the whole arena gasp.

But it was Williamson who landed a massive right hand with ten seconds of the round left and no time to capitalise.

Round nine was epic as the pair dug even deeper for the beautiful Lonsdale belt and Commonwealth strap.

Williamson suffered dog’s abuse in the same tenth round he so heroically turned around in the original clash.

The two fine Englishmen kept slugging and slashing at each other in the 11th but Simpson’s sheer willpower and drive kept him on top.

In the final session, it looked like Simpson was gone just as the bell rang.

In truth it saved them both from their sheer super-human courage because they would have carried on going until everyone had left the arena.
