Former President Muhammadu Buhari ate beans and pap during his eight-year reign.
Disclosing this, Buhari’s former spokesman, Garba Shehu, said his ex-principal was frugal in his meals and ate healthily while in office.
This revelation was contained in his recently released book, Lessons from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience.
The former media aide said the incident happened when Buhari assumed office in 2015.
Shehu said Buhari directed that the N10 million proposed budget be reduced after it was brought to his notice.
Shehu said: “When they told him N10 million was needed, he screamed and demanded it be reduced. ‘Look at my table, what do I eat? How much does it cost?’
“Most of the things he ate were very basic foods that are recognizable and associated with, and consumed by, the lower strata of Nigerian society â tuwo (dough-like dishes made from grains), pap, akara (bean cake), beans, wheat, plenty of salads, poultry, and mutton.”;
