Benue State University, BSU, Makurdi, has been officially renamed to Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, MOAUM.
This decision follows the passage of a law by the Benue State House of Assembly, which was signed into law by the Governor of Benue State, Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on December 30, 2024.
The renaming, now legally in effect, reflects the Benue State Government’s decision to recognize the contributions and lasting impact of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu.
According to a memorandum from the Office of the Registrar, all official communications, documentation, and correspondence concerning the institution will now bear the new name, Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi.
The memo reads below:
“Management of the University wishes to inform all Principal Officers, Deans/Directors, and Heads of Department that following the passage of the law by the Benue State House of Assembly and its subsequent signing into law by the Governor of Benue State and Visitor to the University, His Excellency Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on 30th December 2024, Benue State University, Makurdi, has been formally renamed Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM).
“This renaming reflects the decision and policy of the Benue State Government and is now legally in effect. The university would continue to uphold its mandate in delivering quality tertiary education under its new name.
“Sequel to the above, all Principal Officers, Deans/Directors, and Heads of Department are hereby informed that all official communications, documentation, and correspondence concerning the University shall henceforth bear the name Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM).
“The directive of the Management Committee on the matter is hereby conveyed to you for implementation, please.”;;
