BRUNO FERNANDES has spoken out after Cristiano Ronaldo shockingly left Portugal’s Nations League camp.
, 32, has stuck by the 41-year-old’s side as ‘s international career hangs in the balance.


The midfielder told the star that his legacy will remain strong, despite last week.
He has also called upon the Portuguese Football Federation to bring peace between head coach Jorge Jesus, 72, and the legendary forward.
Fernandes said, via Fabrizio Romano : “I spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo and told him that he is and will always remain the GREATEST icon of our national team and our country.
“Our national team is united, not divided. Matters must be resolved internally and conclude well for both parties.”
Ronaldo’s shocking exit came after he was an unused substitute in ‘s 2-1 win against .
This was the first time he has been left on the bench for 18 years, with with head coach Jesus.
The bust-up has resulted in a major fan reaction as in the 24 hours following the decision.
Ronaldo has since criticising Portugal for their treatment of the Al-Nassr star.





A short statement was released by the Portuguese Football Federation, otherwise officially remaining silent on the matter.
The statement said: “The entire delegation remains fully focused on the national team’s upcoming commitments and achieving the defined objectives.”
Meanwhile, 234-cap Ronaldo has explained that, in time, he will reveal all about his decision to walk.
This has triggered the federation to adjust its approach as it looks to reconcile with the five-time winner following public backlash.
Head coach Jesus has now explained that he will address the unfolding situation, as reports emerge that officials are trying to bring peace between the parties.
Jesus said, via Fabrizio Romano : “I can’t ignore Cristiano Ronaldo topic. Cris is a symbol of the Portuguese national team. He is a symbol of Portugal. Let that be absolutely clear.
“After the game, answering the question, there will be plenty of time to talk about that.”
