The rising star was returning to his hotel from a night of partying on the island of Phuket in the early hours of June 14th.
Reports claim he was involved in a dispute with the driver of his tuk-tuk taxi over paying a fare.
It is believed arrangements were made for the driver to stop at an ATM so Cairney could withdraw money.
But the young star fell from the back of the vehicle, suffering a catastrophic head injury in the incident.
Medics arrived at around 4:10am local time and transported him to Patong Hospital, before later being transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital due to the severity of the injury.
The family of the stricken star released a statement alongside a raising money for the costs of medical treatment and the transport of him and his loved ones.
The page, which has raised over £30,000, read: “We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for help for our son, who has been seriously injured in an accident while in Thailand.
“What began as a normal trip has turned into every parent’s worst nightmare.
“We are doing everything we can, but we need help to bring him back to the UK where he can continue his recovery surrounded by loved ones.”
He reportedly remains in a coma, with one family member telling media : “They’re keeping him alive on a machine.
“He’s clinically brain dead. I’m waiting to hear from the doctor and when his life support will be removed.”
Another fundraiser, set up by Cairney’s 1314 Club, has raised over £55,000 during what they called “an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time for everyone who knows and loves him.”
The prospect boasts an undefeated record of 10 wins from 10 fights, including six knockouts.
