A DAD is facing jail time after his three-year-old son plunged to his death from the fourth floor of a hotel in Cyprus.

The toddler’s father, 37, was arrested on suspicion of negligence following the in Chloraka, Paphos, on Sunday.

It has now been revealed the child allegedly slipped from his dad’s arms while they were playing “aeroplane”.

The pair, along with the boy’s grandfather, had left their rooms and were heading towards the elevator to go to dinner.

While they were waiting for it to arrive, the dad was holding the child aloft.

There was a double window next to where they were standing, measuring roughly 4ft wide and 8ft tall.

The toddler somehow fell through the opening, suffering “severe cranial wounds and multiple wounds to his body and vital organs” in the ordeal.

Paramedics rushed to the scene before taking the boy to Paphos Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In the aftermath of the tragic incident, the distraught parent was taken into custody.

During interrogation, he reportedly claimed to have not realised the window was open.

A source with knowledge of the told the Sun: “We are quite sure his father was holding him before the child fell.

“The inquiry is ongoing but although still early to come to any definitive conclusion everything is pointing to this being a tragedy.”

Paphos Assistant Director of Operations Michalis Nikolaou said the suspect now stands accused of causing death due to a reckless, reckless or dangerous act.

He also faces accusations of neglect of duty as head of the family and neglect of responsibility as a person who had the care of another person.

A separate source told The Sun the issue of negligence was “an open book”.

They said: “The father has been arrested but was he really at fault? We are hearing that the boy fell from an open window along the corridor that led to the lift. Should that window have been open?”

If convicted, the parent could face up to four years in .

In the meantime, he appeared in court today, bursting into tears as he began to recount the series of events leading up to his son’s death.

The court was even forced to adjourn the session for a few minutes while the dad recovered.

He was subsequently issued with an eight-day detention order.

The family reportedly arrived in Paphos on Sunday, and planned to stay until the 25th.

The British family have another young child, a five-year-old girl, who was also with them.

The mum’s parents are also in Paphos with the couple.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
