Several communities in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, are currently experiencing power outages due to the theft of electrical cables and transformer components.

DAILY POST gathered that parts of Ido Local Government Area have been without electricity for months, following the vandalisation of equipment serving those areas.

Affected communities include Araromi, Odo Eran, Bolorunduro, Apete, and Abata Ataa.

Investigations revealed that the cables and other appliances were stolen at different times, causing severe hardship for residents.

Transformers in areas such as Araromi along Akufo Road, Odo Eran at Oju Oja, Bolorunduro, Apete Central, Ataa Abata, and the Papa area have all been affected.

President of the Ajibode, Apete, Awotan, Araromi and Environs Community Development Association, Mr Rasaki Fabayo, confirmed the situation to DAILY POST on Friday.

He said the communities have been in darkness since the thefts occurred, and some residents are contributing funds to replace the stolen materials.

Speaking further, he said, “They stole cables—armoured, incoming and outgoing. Some communities are contributing money to get new ones.

“Transformers at Araromi, Odo Eran, Oju Oja, Bolorunduro, Apete Central, Abata Ataa, Awotan, and Papa 2 are affected. These communities are in total darkness.

“I learnt that some residents are already making efforts to replace the stolen cables and appliances.”;
