The act called Mr Cherry, and described as a “zany comedian” by ITV, left fans divided with his on-stage antics which included opening cans by sitting them and opening wine bottles with his bum.

KSI loved the Japanese comedian and gave him a coveted golden buzzer, the ninth for the audition portion of the series meaning Mr Cherry will progress to the live shows.

“I don’t know about you but I think that was the greatest thing I’ve ever seen,” KSI told him on Saturday’s episode.

He even rushed on to the stage to congratulate Mr Cherry and slipped on the golden confetti that fell from the ceiling to celebrate the golden buzzer.

In a behind the scenes video KSI explained why he pressed the golden buzzer for Mr Cherry.

“Because I’ve seen nothing like it. Incredible,” he said.

The other judges were not as keen on Mr Cherry, including Simon Cowell who gave him a red buzzer.

Mr Cherry had something to say after his performance: “KSI thank you Cherry much.

“Keep calm and Cherry on.”

While KSI was impressed fans thought Mr Cherry’s act was inappropriate and should not have aired on a family friendly show.

“KSI just pushed the Golden Buzzer for an act so bad that there is an actual shot of production looking on in complete shock and despair,” wrote one person on X.

Another added: “I mean Mr Cherry was hilarious sure. But a golden buzzer? Are you ok.”

And a third wrote: “If there was ever evidence on why this show needs to be retired, Mr. Cherry getting the golden buzzer is it.”

Mr Cherry is a Guinness World Record holder and former competitor on Americas Got Talent in 2021.

The Japanese star is known for cracking walnuts with his buttcheeks – had his own TV show at one point, and has even already appeared on British TV in a 2024 episode of Bradley and Barney Walsh’s Breaking Dad.

The live BGT semi-final shows start next week on April 25 and will run through until May 30.

The acts will be battling it out to win £250,000 and a spot at this year’s Royal Variety Performance.
