Benue youths, represented by the Igede Youths Council (IYC), have warned David Ogewu, the member representing the Oju/Obi Federal Constituency of Benue State, regarding his outrageous remarks about Igede youths.

The organization expressed deep dissatisfaction with Ogewu for allegedly disrespecting Igede youths by labeling them as “fools” for expressing their concerns about the severe neglect of the Otukpo-Oju section of the Loko-Oweto-Oju-Yahe Federal road.

The Igede youth group stated that Ogewu's comments are not only an insult to their dignity but also a significant misrepresentation of the spirit and resilience of the Igede people worldwide.

This was conveyed in a statement released on Wednesday by the President of the Igede Youth Council, Andyson Iji Egbodo, and the Secretary, Smith Akoko.

The statement included, “With great disappointment, we observe Mr. Ogewu’s failure to acknowledge the legitimate concerns of his constituents.

“Our call for infrastructural development is certainly not an act of foolishness; thus, the dismissive language employed by Mr. Ogewu reflects a troubling lack of respect for the very youths who supported him in the 2023 election.

“We have come to realize our mistake and now understand that we truly did not know him well.

“In this regard, we unequivocally reject this derogatory rhetoric and urge every Igede youth to fulfill their civic responsibility by obtaining their voter cards, as we face an essential task: to remove David Ogewu from the National Assembly and replace him with a representative whose character embodies the true values of an Igede man—one who exhibits humility, respect, and genuine concern for his constituents.”

The youth group asserted that they are advocating for what rightfully belongs to the Igede people and will not be silenced.

“We will persist in advocating for our rights and demands through all lawful means available to us, including peaceful protests. The neglect of our roads and infrastructure cannot be overlooked, and we will not rest until our voices are heard and our needs addressed.”
