Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has reacted to the death of former Military Administrator of Katsina State and ex-Senator, Chief Joseph Iorshagher Akaagerger.

DAILY POST reports that Akaagerger died on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the age of 69.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 20, Governor Alia described the late Akaagerger, a retired Lieutenant Colonel, as a patriotic and committed Nigerian who gave his best in service to both the nation and Benue State.

He praised Akaagerger’s distinguished career in public service, “especially his time as Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District (Zone A), where he was noted for his contributions to politics, business, community development and philanthropy.”;;

Governor Alia expressed sadness over the loss, noting that the state would miss Akaagerger’s wise counsel, especially his role as an elder statesman and a key member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Forum in Benue.

He prayed for God’s comfort for the bereaved family, associates, and the entire people of Benue State and Nigeria, encouraging them to find strength in the legacies the late senator left behind.

The Governor also prayed for the peaceful repose of Senator Akaagerger’s soul.
