Benue monarch, Tor Sankera, HRH Chief David Sev-Av, has paid a visit to the troubled communities of Uyam and Ugbaam in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The visit is aimed at finding solutions to the alarming rise in killings, kidnappings, and general insecurity affecting several villages in the axis, including Tse-Afati, Tse-Ubur, Tse-Usaar, Tse-Abeke, Tse-Anyunuku, Tse-Gyembe, and Tse-Hwembe.
Chief Sev-Av called on the people for collective support for local security arrangements.
He emphasized the urgent need for unity among the villagers to tackle insecurity, stressing that the protection of lives and farmlands was a shared responsibility.
Chief Sev-Av appreciated the contributions of Mr. Dan Zuru, whose efforts in local security coordination were highly commended.
Also present at the meeting was the Chairman of Ukum Local Government, Hon. Modi, who assured the communities of the government’s commitment.
He gave immediate approval for the clearing of the dense forest behind Tse-Ubur and Tse-Anyunuku, a location widely believed to be a hideout for criminal gangs terrorizing the area.
Speaking on behalf of the youths, community leader Bobo Ajaga described the forest as “a major operational base for criminals in Uyam, Ugbaam, Borikyo, and Shitile.”;
He appealed to the government to act decisively to secure the communities.
Other dignitaries present at the meeting included Torsaa Orbunde, Mpuuga Ubur, and several community elders and youth leaders.
Chief Sev-Av admonished displaced residents to return to their homes and resume farming activities, promising improved security.
He also issued a stern warning to local youths who are aiding or participating in criminal activities to desist immediately.
