Beckham, Gary Neville complete takeover of English club

Published on May 08, 2025 at 03:19 PM

Former Manchester United team-mates, David Beckham and Gary Neville, on Thursday acquired Salford City.

Alongside ex-United teammates Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Philip Neville, Beckham and Neville were already investors in the League Two side.

But this new ownership group now includes US-based businessman Declan Kelly and the chairman of Britain’s Lawn Tennis Association, Mervyn Davies.

Butt, Giggs, Scholes and Philip Neville are no longer shareholders in Salford. However, they will still have roles at the club.

“Football will come first, however, it’s critical that we drive the club towards sustainability in the next 4-5 years.

“I can’t wait for the next part of this journey,”; Gary Neville said in a statement.

Beckham, who also co-owns MLS side Inter Miami, added: “Salford City is at the heart of its community.

“It has a rich history and I am delighted to be a part of the next chapter.”;
