It then brutally slammed him to the floor as it bared its teeth and attempted to chow down on the trainer.

Staff then rush to the zoo keepers aid wrestling the fierce animal of his stomach.

One staff member, grasping a basketball hoop, manages to get the beast to sink its teeth into the metal instead of the brave trainer.

Bosses at the Hangzhou Safari Park in the Zhejiang Province announced it has immediately axed the black bear show after the shocking attack.

The incident is believed to have occurred when staff were finishing up a performance on Saturday.

Although neither the keeper nor the bear was injured the zoo have apologised for their inadequate on-site management that left many visitors fuming.

Breaking his silence, the black bear’s trainer said: “Hello everyone, I’m Xiong Er (the black bear)’s keeper and the person involved in today’s incident.

“Xiong Er is naturally quite food-obsessed. This time, the main reason was that I had a large bag of his favourite carrots and apples with me.”

The unnamed trainer believes the beast became excited and that’s why he lunged forward.

He added: ” I sincerely apologise for the impact this has caused and appreciate everyone’s concern. Please rest assured that neither I nor Xiong Er was injured.

“This experience serves as a reminder for me to exercise greater caution when interacting with Xiong Er in the .”

The trainer made a lucky escape from the beasts clutches as footage shows it appeared to be a close call.

After the bear was pulled away from the keeper, it’s understood the animal attempted to pounce on him again.

Staff had to use force to detain the unruly brute on December 6.

The horror attack has sparked a debate on social media, with many convinced animal performances should be axed.

Hangzhou Safari Park said it will monitor the animal involved and take notes on its physical and mental wellbeing.
