The Bauchi State Police Command says it has rescued two kidnapped victims in a joint operation that left one suspected bandit dead and an AK-47 rifle recovered.

The incident followed an attack by gunmen on Kataraje village, near Kalgo and Alkaleri, in the Gwana District of the Yankari Game Reserve, in the early hours of Friday.

Police spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said in a statement issued on Saturday that the attack occurred at about 2.30am, during which two residents – 60-year-old Alhaji Ango Mallam Idi and 35-year-old Musa Alhaji Shumo, were abducted.

Two others, identified as 50-year-old Rabiu Sale and 45-year-old Sale Akko, sustained injuries.

According to Wakil, the Command received information from residents of Yalo and Mansur communities at about 6am on Saturday and quickly mobilised a joint operations team to the scene.

“The injured persons were given medical attention while operatives tracked the suspects. A gun duel ensued, during which one bandit was neutralised. An AK-47 rifle was recovered from the scene,” he said.

Wakil added that the hostages were rescued unhurt and reunited with their families.
