The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has scheduled by-elections for Zubo and Mainako wards in the Shira and Zaki Local Government Areas of the state for Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
The Executive Chairperson of the Commission, Jummai Abubakar, announced this in a statement released on Tuesday in Bauchi by the Commission’s Information Officer, Ishiyaku Adamu.
Abubakar stated that this decision is consistent with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Bauchi State Electoral Law of 2008 (as amended), and other relevant electoral statutes.
She confirmed that the by-elections will take place in Zubo Ward of Shira Local Government Area and Mainako Ward of Zaki Local Government Area on the specified date.
Additionally, she mentioned that the by-election previously scheduled for Tumfafi Ward in Shira Local Government Area in December 2025 has been postponed and will now occur alongside the January 2026 elections.
The BASIEC chairperson instructed political parties and candidates to collect nomination forms from the respective Electoral Offices in Shira and Zaki Local Government Areas.
She emphasized that this announcement serves as an official notification to voters and other stakeholders in Tumfafi and Zubo wards of Shira Local Government Area, as well as Mainako Ward in Zaki Local Government Area, to prepare for the upcoming elections.
