A window on the Atletico team bus was smashed, though no one on board has been reported injured.

It comes after a similar incident ahead of their Copa del Rey semi-final second leg in Barcelona last month.

Atletico lost that game 3-0 but reached the final after a 4-0 first leg win in Madrid.

Barriers had been put alongside the road outside the Nou Camp to prevent Barcelona supporters getting close to the bus, though they still managed to cause damage.

Bottles were thrown along with an unlit flare despite a heavy police presence outside the stadium.

Barca boss Hansi Flick was expecting a charged-up atmosphere with the game taking place less than a week after his last meeting with Atletico.

And he insisted the stakes were even higher for this one than in their clash on Saturday, which finished 2-1 to the Catalan side.

Flick said: “It’s different because the is the best competition in the world.

“Everyone wants to give their best. Everyone wants to win. It’s a good opportunity for everyone to show that this week.

“We have our style and how we want to play. We have to focus on that.”
