THIS is the moment Sir Keir Starmer found himself embarrassed on the global stage — after seemingly believing that Donald Trump was inviting him to deliver a speech, only to be dismissed moments later.
The Prime Minister stood just behind the US President in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, as Trump addressed world leaders and commended nations for their efforts in negotiating a ceasefire in Gaza.

As he concluded his remarks, Trump looked back and asked: “Where is the United Kingdom, where is my friend, Starmer?”
Sir Keir responded: “I am right behind you, as usual.”
The President then gestured for him to come forward: “Come up here, is everything going well?”
Starmer stepped up, seemingly prepared for a turn at the microphone, replying: “Very good.”
However, before he could continue, Trump stepped back in front and resumed speaking: “It is wonderful that you are here. These people all arrived on very short notice and I think it is fantastic.”
Feeling stranded and uncertain, Sir Keir looked around awkwardly before shuffling back to his place beside Canadian PM Mark Carney, offering a faint smile as the moment went viral.
Social media erupted with laughter and mockery.
One user posted on X: “LMAO. Trump just invited Keir Starmer to the stage, letting him believe he was being asked to speak, only to dismiss him and send him back! I love it!”
Another commented: “It was epic how Trump embarrassed Keir Starmer on the world stage… Trump never forgets.”
The humiliation occurred just moments after Trump had jokingly remarked to leaders: “I have known many of you for a long time. You’re my friends, you great people. There are a couple I don’t particularly like, but I won’t tell you who.”
Sir Keir later sought to redirect the conversation to more serious matters, celebrating a “truly historic day” and stating that the UK could assist in monitoring the ceasefire and decommissioning Hamas’s weaponry, “drawing on our experience in Northern Ireland.”
However, he faced criticism for appearing merely for a “photo op” after recognizing Palestine as a state last month.
Trump’s victory lap
Sir Keir’s awkward moment unfolded during Donald Trump’s victorious Middle East tour — a high-profile celebration of a ceasefire many attribute to his efforts.
Trump arrived in Israel on Monday just minutes after Hamas released the first hostages of the conflict, and spent the day receiving accolades.
In Hostages Square in Tel Aviv, crowds chanted “Trump, Trump” as joyful families reunited.
Addressing the Knesset, Trump proclaimed: “This is not just the end of a war; this is the end of the age of terror and death… This marks the historic dawn of a new Middle East.”
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised him as “the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House.”
Some MPs even donned red MAGA-style hats.
Trump also extended an olive branch to Iran, stating: “You know what would be great? If we could make a peace deal with them. Would you be happy with that?”
However, his suggestion was met with silence.
The President further boasted about U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, claiming: “We lifted a significant burden off the Middle East and off of Israel.”
He then dismissed concerns that Tehran might rebuild: “The last thing they want to do is start digging holes in mountains that were just destroyed. They are not doing that. They want to survive.”
