AUSTRALIA star Cristian Volpato has reportedly tested positive for cocaine.

The Sassuolo player was stopped twice on the same night for going almost double the speed limit in Sydney.

He is said to have been going nearly 94km/h in a 60 zone on Thursday night when pulled over by initially.

Volpato, 22, returned a negative result on a breath test from his BMW Coupe on the Anzac Bridge at 11.05pm.

But he was then stopped again barely two hours later and gave a positive result for having cocaine in his system.

The former midfielder was driving at 109km/h in the same 60 limit area.

New South Wales police say he was given an infringement notice for speeding and had his international licence suspended for six months.

A secondary sample of oral fluid was taken for further tests.

Volpato’s camp have been approached for comment.

Volpato made three appearances at the World Cup for his country after transferring allegiances from earlier this year.

He was an Italian youth international but switched to become an ace prior to the squad announcement.

Volpato was born in Camperdown, Australia, and played for Western Sydney before heading to Europe as a junior.

He featured in Roma’s academy and made the step up to first team .

Sassuolo signed him in 2023.

Volpato was an unused sub for Australia’s opener against – a 2-0 win.
