The father of Abdulwahab Abubakar, a 300-level Chemistry Education student killed at Ibrahim Babangida University, Lapai, IBBUL, in Niger State has expressed deep pain, stating that his son’s bright future was cut off short.
Recall that Abdulwahab was tragically killed during a robbery attack on Sunday night at his lodge at about 2:30 am, leaving his family in shock and grief.
In an emotional interview with DAILY POST at Paiko in Paikoro local government, where he resides, Abdulwahab’s father, Abubakar, described the killing of his first son from his third wife with a promising future as a terrible blow on the family.
“I got called at 3:30am on Sunday and I rushed to Lapai alone with a heavy heart and within an hour I got to the hospital where he was taken to. I met my son’s lifeless body on the bed and brutally murdered. Kai, I broke down. His life was just cut short before it started”;
He lamented that the loss of Abdulwahab has not only devastated his family but also sparked fears among parents whose children are studying at the university.
He called on the Niger State government to provide adequate security for students to prevent such incidents in the future not only in IBBUL, but other institutions in the state.
“You can’t ask parents to send their wards to school, when you can’t provide security,
“We struggle and work hard to send our children to school, and to hear they’re being killed is discouraging,.”; he lamented
According to him, ”;the incident is the fifth reported cases of student killings at IBBUL, this is raising serious concerns about the safety of students on campus.
”;My family is really heartbroken. However, I accept what happened to us as the will of Allah because He allowed it to happen. There is nothing anyone can do when it’s time. I said before, let the Government rise up and stop this trend by taking concrete steps to enhance security measures and ensure the safety in schools ”;
When asked if we could speak withAbdulwahab’s mother, Rabi Abubakar 45 years, Abubakar simply said she was not in a good state to speak on her loss, she is in great shock.”;
Abdulwahab’s step sister, Zinatu Abubakar and his cousin Faiza Abdulkadir decried the brutal killing of their brother, lamenting noting that his death has shaken the whole family even though, they have decided to leave every thing to God.
Abdulwahab was buried yesterday on Monday at about 9:30 at Paiko.
