ARSENAL have held talks over a move for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Mikel Arteta is pushing to bolster his squad ahead of their Premier League title defence and wants to add a midfielder to provide competition and support for Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.

Guimaraes, 28, has two years left on his deal at St. James’ Park and the Gunners have been in discussions with representatives over a potential move.

Newcastle, however, would not welcome any approaches for the Brazil international.

Contact is yet to be made between the two clubs while there has been no indication that Guimaraes is pushing for a move away from Tyneside.

Should a deal be in the offing, it is also thought Manchester United would be interested in making a move.

Guimaraes, who joined Eddie Howe’s side in 2022 from Lyon for an initial £35m, has made 195 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals.

Meanwhile, Toon have knocked back a second approach from Tottenham for midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Spurs asked the Mags to reconsider their opening £75million bid but were given another stern ‘no’ as the North East club hold out for £100m.

Robert De Zerbi wants his compatriot to lead his Tottenham revolution with some St. James’ Park insiders believing that Tonali will depart the North East this summer.

However, Newcastle hold all the cards over any exit with the star under contract until 2029, while they also have an option to trigger a further 12-month extension.

Eddie Howe stated in May he will not stand in anyone’s way who wants out of Newcastle as he performs his own major rebuild.

But Toon will not sell on the cheap, and Sun Sport understands they will not entertain any Tonali sale unless they receive a figure around £100m.

The Magpies, who have already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona this summer, are braced to lose Tonali too. Despite knocking back Spurs’ bids, there is also interest from Manchester United as well as Arsenal.

Arsenal looked into a deal for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes but were put off by the Hammers’ £80million asking price, leaving United and Spurs to fight it out over the Portuguese.

Arteta is looking to add to his forward line too and is pushing to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.

The £100m-rated England international is keen on joining the Premier League champions and it is thought personal terms would not be an issue.

Arsenal have also confirmed the permanent signing for defender Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen,

The 24-year-old will officially join on July 1 for a fee in the region of £34.5million and is set to sign a five-year contract.

Hincapie made 39 appearances for the Gunners on loan last season, starting the Champions League final in Budapest.
