The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has reaffirmed the Brigade’s dedication to protecting all communities impartially while promoting an environment conducive to peace and development.

General Uwa made this commitment over the weekend when he welcomed a high-ranking delegation from the Wurkum Chiefdom, who visited the Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo, Taraba State, to express gratitude to the Army for its efforts in restoring stability in the Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

He encouraged the residents of the state to adhere to the law, engage in dialogue to resolve conflicts, and support ongoing peacebuilding initiatives.

The Commander highlighted that recent security achievements in Karim Lamido and other regions of Taraba were made possible through cooperation among security forces, the state government, traditional leaders, and community members.

The delegation was led by Mr. Iliya Idris, the representative of the Chief of Wurkum, who conveyed the Chiefdom’s gratitude to the Brigade’s leadership, officers, and soldiers.

Idris commended the Army’s intervention in the communal conflict between the Shomo and Wurkum tribes, describing it as timely, professional, and essential in preventing tensions, particularly in Usmanu Village, from escalating into widespread violence.

He noted that the fair deployment of troops, ongoing monitoring, and enforcement of law and order played a crucial role in restoring peace and rebuilding public trust in government institutions.

According to him, the presence of security personnel has allowed displaced residents to return home and resume their livelihoods without fear.

Idris further assured the Commander that the Wurkum people are committed to maintaining peace, unity, and lawful behavior in the area.
