Flamingo Pharma UK Ltd has issued an urgent recall of its Flucloxacillin Capsules BP 500mg tablets, following a packaging error.

A small number of packs had the wrong patient information leaflet, with affected batches instead containing information for amoxicillin 500mg capsules.

Packs included in the recall are batches 1600636, with the expiry date of August 31 2028.

Although the recall has been labelled as a “precautionary measure”, healthcare professionals should quarantine all remaining stock and return it to their supplier using the approved process.

Patients who have received the affected packs can continue taking the capsules as prescribed, as the quality of the medicine itself has not been affected.

Flucloxacillin is a common type of penicillin antibiotic used to treat a variety of infections including skin, wound, ear and bone (osteomyelitis) infections.

Amoxicillin is also a type of penicillin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, such as chest infections (including pneumonia) and dental abscesses.

Flamingo Pharma estimated that the number of affected packs is low, but measures must be taken at pharmacy and wholesaler level.
