Anthony Gordon quickly backtracks on Trent Alexander-Arnold comment in live ITV interview after England win over Czechia

ANTHONY GORDON appeared to suggest Trent Alexander-Arnold “probably should’ve played” more for England – before quickly backtracking.

The 25-year-old put on an as cruised to over Czechia.

He also added to his international goal tally, heading home a cross from just moments into the second half.

was asked about the inclusion of the full-back – who made his first start for the Three Lions in almost two years – after the match.

And in response, he said: “I make that run time and time again and only a certain number of players have got that ability, technique and bravery to be willing to make the mistake trying that pass, so credit to Trent.

“That’s why he’s so good and I’ve been dying to play with him for that reason.”

The former ace then began to say that Alexander-Arnold should’ve played more, but quickly changed the discussion.

It came following the suggestion from many fans and pundits that the superstar should have been included in ‘s squad.

He continued: “He’s had his own journey with England.

“Probably should’ve played… Would’ve liked to have played more than he has, sorry, but he’s been a great character during this camp, I’ve really enjoyed being around him.”

On his return to the England squad, Alexander-Arnold said: “Amazing, it’s always an honour to represent my country. It’s been a long time but I’ve always believed I can play for England.

“That belief has always been there and it was about proving it at club level. The manager gave me a chance, hopefully he is happy with how I played.”

He also went on to say it was “great” to play with Gordon.

The full-back added: “It’s a great compliment and it’s great to play with him.”

England next face Croatia on Saturday before another meeting with Czechia.
