Suspended member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Bernard Udemezue, who is representing Ayamelum Constituency has been thrown out of the Legislative Chambers, after he tried resuming from a three months suspension.
Udemezue was ejected from the chambers to stop him from participating in the budget presentation sitting at the assembly, where the governor of the state, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo is billed to present the 2026 appropriation bill.
The lawmaker was suspended about four months ago for allegedly sharing some details of the earnings of members of the assembly on a social media platform, an act which the leadership of the house considered to be improper. He was suspended for three months.
Ahead of the Governor’s arrival at the Assembly complex, security personnel including Police, DSS, NSCDC, among others were already stationed, awaiting his convoy.
Lawmaker, top government functionaries including Commissioners, Special Advisers, Media Aids, CEO s of various Agencies and parastatals, traditional rulers, Party Faithful, as well as Civil Society Organizations were all also seated in anticipation.
Drama, however, ensued when the Deputy Speaker, Mr Chukwuma Okoye and the member representing Oyi Constituency, Mr Innocent Ojike approached the suspended lawmaker in company of security personnel and walked him out.
The House leadership also went upstairs to the gallery and walked out all supporters of the lawmaker who had accompanied him to the plenary.
DAILY POST gathered that the reason was because the lawmaker did not follow due process after his three-month suspension elapsed, before resuming.
As of the time of filing this report, the governor was still being expected for his budget presentation, while the lawmaker is said to have been kept at the new legislative building.
In defence of his actions, the suspended lawmaker, Udemezue claimed that he followed due process and had submitted necessary letters for resumption to the appropriate authorities before his appearance.
