The Portuguese tactician has left his stint behind him as he is looking to rebuild the Rossoneri with a “dream” target ahead of the coming season.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss has identified captain Virgil van Dijk as the ideal transfer to lead his defence.

However, that won’t be at all easy as ‘s mammoth £400,000-a-week salary will pose as a major obstacle.

The same goes for the Reds’ willingness to part company with such a prolific figure, especially after losing Ibrahima Konate on a free before his move to Real Madrid.

That is despite the fact the centre-back’s contract with the Merseysiders runs out in 2027, which means the Premier League giants could lose another major star for free next year.

The same source claims has identified an alternative in Sporting ace Goncalo Inacio.

The ex-Man Utd boss knows all about Inacio, 24, as they spent four years working together in Lisbon.

Amorim has been busy this summer as have already signed Paris Saint-Germain star Goncalo Ramos.

Van Dijk recently returned from duty after the Netherlands’ early elimination.

The ex-Southampton star saw his national team on Tuesday in the Last 32.
