Former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has refuted claims that he accused Vice President Kashim Shettima of being responsible for the creation of Boko Haram.
In a statement released on Saturday, titled “A Lie Taken Too Far: Shettima, Ali Modu Sheriff Are Not at Odds,” Sheriff labeled the report as false, malicious, and aimed at causing division.
He stated: “The attention of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, former Governor of Borno State and a respected elder statesman, has been drawn to a false and malicious publication circulating online with the headline, ‘It’s Not Me, It’s Shettima Who Created Boko Haram — Sheriff Reveals.’
“This story is a complete fabrication, lacking any truth, and is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, tarnish Senator Sheriff’s reputation, and create discord within the nation’s political arena.”
Sheriff firmly denied ever making such a statement, granting any interviews, or interacting with journalists regarding this issue.
He remarked that the report was not only deceptive but also a harmful piece of misinformation aimed at undermining his efforts towards peace and national development.
“The Senator reaffirms his steadfast commitment to Nigeria’s security and stability and finds it deeply regrettable that unscrupulous individuals and platforms would resort to spreading falsehoods for trivial political gain,” the statement continued.
Sheriff urged the public and the media to dismiss the story and cautioned that his legal team has been directed to identify and take action against those responsible for the defamatory publication.
He further pledged to pursue full legal recourse if the story is not retracted, reiterating his dedication to truth, justice, and accountability.
