Akwa Ibom Representative Slams Attacks on Senate President Akpabio

The representative for Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Constituency in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Patrick Umoh, has denounced what he calls ‘defamatory’ attacks on Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

These online attacks were initiated by a certain Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Umoh demanded an immediate cessation of the “shameful charade” being carried out by Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio.

The Representative accused her of conducting an “unprovoked and dishonorable campaign of character assassination” through inflammatory social media posts that he claims are devoid of any factual basis.

Declaring that “enough is enough,” Umoh cautioned that these tirades not only harm the Senate President but also tarnish the Akpabio family’s name and the reputation of Essien Udim, one of the three local government areas he represents in the House of Representatives.

Invoking shared cultural values of respect for elders and the sanctity of truth, Umoh, who previously served as Akpabio’s Senior Legislative Aide and later as Special Assistant during his tenure as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, urged Mrs. Akpabio to “reflect soberly on the consequences” of her actions.

He called on the public to disregard the allegations, emphasizing that Akpabio’s eight years as governor transformed Akwa Ibom into a “model of progress and modernity,” asserting that his reputation remains intact.

Highlighting significant projects in roads, education, and healthcare, the lawmaker asserted that Akpabio’s leadership of the 10th Senate continues to demonstrate “rare capacity and statesmanship” during a crucial time in Nigeria’s history.
